LITTLE AXE – If You Want Loyalty, Buy A Dog (Remastered) – LP – Vinyl

Description

LP – Standard Edition Black Vinyl. Edited for vinyl by Adrian Sherwood. Re-cut by Frank Merritt at The Carvery. Contains printed inner sleeve.

First time vinyl edition of the 2002 album by Little Axe, the blues-infused alter ego of guitarist Skip McDonald, member of The Sugarhill Gang, Tackhead, and more, and musical arranger on a large swathe of the On-U Sound back catalogue.

An album that is beautiful, gently funky, and deeply, deeply sad — against all odds, McDonald has taken musical elements that have little in common with the blues and used them to draw out the blues’ deepest essence. There is not a single weak track on this album. It’s an unusually moving and haunting document from one of the unsung heroes of American (and, oddly enough, Jamaican) roots music.
