RIAN TREANOR & CARA TOLMIE – Body Lapse – LP – Black Vinyl

Description

LP – Black Vinyl

Cara Tolmie and Rian Treanor‘s debut collaboration, Body Lapse, is a striking collision of corporeal voicework and avant-rave experimentation a sound-world where meaning slips, bodies stutter, and rhythm gets pulled inside-out.

What begins as a dialogue between Tolmies entrancing Internal Singing technique – a deeply embodied vocal practice exploring breath, touch, and physicality – andTreanors fractured, hyper-rhythmic electronic structures, evolves into something far stranger and more visceral. The result is a tactile, shape-shifting sonic environment that resists categorization: dissociative dance music that feels both intimate and otherworldly.

Body Lapse emerges from their electrifying first performance together at Counterflows Festival 2023, where they were paired for a commissioned piece at Glasgows historic Arches venue. That initial improvisational spark has now been distilled into a full-length release, recorded across Stockholm and Rotherham in 2024.

Across its runtime, the album blurs the boundary between voice and machine, sensation and symbol. Its a place where concrete poetry and cut-up beats unravel in real time, where semantic modulations flicker like hallucinations, and where breath becomes both material and metaphor. Treanors warped rhythmic sensibility wraps around Tolmies fractured narratives and vocal modulations, resulting in a sonically rich, playfully surreal, and often unsettling experience.

Body Lapse is a record of ecstatic instability – a speculative, sensual, and fiercely original collaboration that pushes the body and the beat into thrilling new territory. For listeners drawn to the intersections of performance art, club music, and vocal experimentation, this is a must-hear.
