Description
The Septet in D minor (Opus 74) for Flute, Oboe, Horn, Viola, Cello, Double bass and Piano was written at Vienna in 1816, shortly before Hummel left for Stuttgart. It is an excellent piece of early romantic chamber-music, and still beguiles us today through its sheer wealth of colour, its rich melodic invention and its sometimes quite daring harmony. Some places unmistakably forecast later masters, such as Schumann or Mendelssohn.
