Description
Originally released in 1972 by the Odeon label, “Quarteto Em Cy” represents one of the most elevated works in the group’s extensive discography, and a true gem much sought after by Brazilian vinyl collectors. Known for their impeccable vocal harmonies and strong connection to ’60s bossa nova, the quartet explores new sonic paths here, moving towards a sophisticated, elegant, and rhythm-packed post-bossa.
The arrangements, by Edu Lobo and Luiz Ea (of the Tamba Trio), provide an instrumental richness that embraces jazz and Brazilian popular music without ever losing emotional warmth. The group’s voices flow with an amazing naturalness, always in balance with instrumentations that are as refined as they are accessible.
Among the highlights is his brilliant version of Milton Nascimento’s classic ‘Tudo Que Voc Podia Ser’, along with other gems such as ‘Quando o Carnaval Chegar’, ‘Canto de Ob’ and ‘Cantoria’. These recordings reflect a stage of full artistic maturity, in which the group, already consolidated as a regular collaborator of figures such as Vincius de Moraes, Jobim or Chico Buarque, reaches new heights of creativity.
Discontinued long ago and considered by many to be their best work, this self-titled LP has become a highly coveted piece by collectors of MPB, bossa nova and vocal pop from the 70s. Also recommended for those who enjoy bands like The Free Design or The Mamas & The Papas, but with that unmistakable Brazilian refinement, this album is a real gem to be rediscovered.
Reissue on 180gr vinyl.
