WISHBONE ASH – Pilgrimage (Reissue) – LP – Gatefold 180g Vinyl [FEB 13]

Description

LP – 180g Black Vinyl housed on a Gatefold Sleeve (2026 Reissue).

Pilgrimage (1971) is Wishbone Ashs second studio album and a pivotal step in defining the bands distinctive sound. This re-issue faithfully replicates the original UKrelease in its gatefold sleeve and is pressed on 180g vinyl.

Building on the twin-lead guitar approach introduced on their debut, the album expands into more intricate, pastoral, and adventurous territory. Andy Powell and Ted Turner weave melodic, harmonised guitar lines that feel both fluid and exploratory, blending hard rock power with folk-influenced lyricism. Tracks like Vas Dis and Valediction highlight the bands instrumental confidence, allowing extended passages to unfold organically rather than follow strict song structures. The rhythm section of Martin Turner and Steve Upton provides a steady yet flexible foundation, grounding the albums more expansive moments.

Pilgrimage balances electric energy with acoustic textures, creating a reflective, almost spiritual atmosphere suggested by its title. The album stands as an early example of progressive rock sensibilities fused with melodic hard rock, influencing countless guitar-driven bands that followed.
